Bodyline Wig058 Review

I'm normally not the kind of person to post reviews, but seeing as how a hard time I had at finding reviews for Bodyline's wig058 I decided to give it a go.

For those not familiar with Bodyline, it is a Japanese shop selling a variety of items, ranging from cosplay costumes and wigs to lolita clothing and wigs. Bodyline has been one of the places where people bought their accessories like shoes and tights. While they do sell lolita dresses and blouses the quality can vary a lot and I would advise to make sure the garment is of good quality either by reading reviews or visiting their physical store in Japan.
You can find the online shop here, there is currently a big sale going on as the site will soon be moving to another page. Shipping is free from a certain order amount.

I had always stayed away from Bodyline wigs, as I had heard some negative things about some of the wigs on the site. However, included in the recent sales were the ringlet wigs (not the one this review is about), being an old-school lolita I couldn't resist being that wig. I had also been wondering how a bob cut would look on me, so I bought wig058 to try it out.

Ordering and shipping went smoothly, it took roughly 1 week for the package to reach me.
I ordered the color lightbrown-4, which turned out to be pretty close to my natural blonde color.
The quality is really decent for a Bodyline wig, it is not really shiny, though I haven't looked at it in direct light. The fibers are okay, close-up you will easily see that it is a wig, but in pictures people actually believed I had cut my hair.
The only downside is that the ends don't curl inwards like on the photo. This might be adjusted by using some heat to re-style it, but I haven't tried it yet.
I've attached a photo of the wig worn by me, this was straight out of the package, so I haven't cut the bangs or tried to style the hair ends inwards.

Good luck with your next Bodyline order!

Busy, busy, busy

Hi everyone!

As you've probably noticed not much has been happening on my blogs. This has been due to various reasons, but the main one being me moving to Tokyo in September for a 6 months period to study at Waseda university.
I'm really excited and can't wait to settle in, but before that time a lot has to be prepared, so I haven't had too much time for writing.
I did upload some movies of our last vacation on youtube, so please take a look!
I will be using this blog for writing about my lolita experiences in Japan, my other blog Debly going East will be used to write about everything else noteworthy in Japan. I will also try to update my youtube from time to time, but I'm not sure if the internet connection in my dorm can handle it haha.
Voor de Nederlanders die nog wat meer over mijn dagelijkse dingen in Japan willen lezen, ik ga ook een waarbenjij.nu bijhouden, geheel in het Nederlands!

Hopelijk tot snel!

Osharecon 2015

On the 14th of March the first edition of Osharecon took place. Osharecon is an event aimed at J-fashion, it offered a variety of fashion shows and panels. On top of that, there were multiple shows, a karaoke corner, J-fashion related vendors and a maid cafe.

As I was part of the lolita fashion show (shiro classic lolita) I arrived a bit early, and followed Renske to the back of the building, only to find out that I was standing in the vendor hall without anyone checking my ticket, oops. After we had found all the girls participating in the show we practiced for a while and entered the con. We were the first in line for the fashion shows, so after some short browsing we met back-stage.
The stage was a bit small, but we made it work and even got a group picture on it.
(picture from A Sure Shot)

After the show I went to check out the stalls and talk to friends. There was a television reporting walking around, followed by both a camera and sound man. I've heard some complaints about their rude behavior, but luckily they were pretty nice when they asked us some questions. I think we must have been interviewed for at least 30 minutes, but we were only visible on tv for a few seconds haha.

I sadly had to leave early due to not feeling too well.
Of course there are always some points of improvement after a first edition. First, there should be something done about the sound from the stage. When someone was preforming it was impossible to have a normal conversation on the other side of the room (it was all in the same room). My second point is also about the stage, it was tiny, you could hardly call it a stage. I'm not sure how hard it is to get a bigger stage, but if it is possible I would really advice getting a bigger stage to give everything more of a show feeling. Third, it would be nice if next time there were some seats. At this edition there weren't enough chairs, and while I was lucky I could borrow a vendor chair from my friend Cat, I wouldn't have been too happy if I couldn't sit while feeling ill. My final point is about the schedule. While there was quite a lot on offer I felt a bit bored half-way through, I don't think I would have been able to enjoy myself till the 'big' concert took place, an option could be to shorten the event or offer more things to do.

Even though it seems I have a lot of less positive points I really enjoyed the event and hope there will be another (improved) edition next year.

Swap a Bow

On the 18th of january Cat and I organized our comms annual christmas swap meet. The rules are simple people are given a name and wish list of another comm member and have to buy a present for a maximum amount of €20. Everyone gets together on a certain date and we unwrap the presents together.
This was the first year for us to organize it, and I believe that even though there is still some room for improvement we did a pretty good job.

The swap meet was held at Summer Tales Boutique, where we arrived a bit earlier to arrange seating and to make the food table ready.

Around 13:00 people starting to arrive and I tried to take as much outfit photos as possible (I love outfit photos), as everyone once again looked wonderful. After everyone arrived and was seated we started unpacking the presents.
(not all presents were there yet when I took this photo, once all the presents were put on the table it was completely filled)

I was really happy to see that everyone had put a lot of thought into their present. I was coupled with Nienke, who had a very clear wish list, so I had a pretty clear view of what I wanted to buy for her (people were also allowed to make something, but as I have two left hands I didn't dare to try). I started out by searching for a headbow or wristcuffs to match her beautiful new Victorian Letter JSK, sadly I couldn't find anything that was to my tastes or in the right shade of red. Thus, I turned my attention to another point in her wish list, cute teacups. One of my favorite brands for cute tableware is Blond Amsterdam, which our garden centre happened to sell. Here I found an awesome breakfast set whit cute images of various breakfast ingredients (like eggs and bacon).
Having found the present for my own secret santa I turned my attention to a new problem, the possibility of people not getting any presents. Cat and I had decided that we should have some spare presents in case there would be someone without a present, we had found some cute items as extra gift, but luckily in the end that was not necessary.

I got an awesome fake fur tola necklace thingie (I'm not really sure what they are called, but they are cute ^_^ ), which is great for this time of year and matches with a big part of my wardrobe. It was package in a present box that was filled with small fabric stars (that I accidentally sprinkled all over my neighbor) and came with a nice note from Nienke.

As the meet was coming to an end people took the opportunity to talk to each other or explore the Summer Tales Boutique store. All in all I believe it was a pretty great day and hope there will be another swap meet next year.

Lolita Level Up Quiz 2.0

Over at the F Yeah Lolita Blog there was a quiz posted to test your lolita level. I was pretty curious to see my own score, so I tried it out.

My score is 75, according to the quiz I'm an "experienced lolita"; "61-80 points is the realm of an experienced Lolita! You've probably been active in the fashion for a number of years, have a fairly large and diverse wardrobe, and have attended (and hosted!) your fair share of Lolita events. You're most likely well-known within your local, and online, communities. You're probably practically an expert on the fashion and have probably introduced, or at least guided, a few friends along the right path in the fashion. Your next step is most likely to do a closet cleaning or some wardrobe organization because you probably have a few years of accumulated clothes."

I actually did the wardrobe cleaning last year (though there might be 1 or 2 more dresses that will be sold this year), so I think the result is pretty accurate for me.

Bodyline Osaka

There is a really big Bodyline shop located in Osaka. It is right in the main shopping street (nearby the Disney Store), so it is hard to miss.
As per usual there is a neurotic Disney remix playing in the background. As this store is pretty big, with 2 floors, they sell almost all the items Bodyline advertises online. The ground floor holds the "normal" items, like socks, shoes, blouses, and wigs. The second floor holds the lolita dresses, cosplay suits, etc.
When I gave the blouses a closer inspection I found some really nice ones hanging between the awful pieces. There was one slight problem, the blouses I picked out were a size M, and I wasn't sure if that would fit me. At the Bodyline stores you are not allowed to try things on (while in the Tokyo store you are allowed to try shoes on), and there is a no returns rule, so I wasn't sure what to do. However, one of the shop girls (I'm really sorry for them seeing as what kind of crazy outfits they have to wear) told me the second blouse was half price, so I caved in and bought 2 blouses, plus a pair of shoes. The blouses turned out to fit perfectly, so I later returned to buy some more.

Metamorphose Osaka

The Metamorphose Osaka store is hidden away really well. To find it you have to pass an alley past a few other shops and then take a small stair down. But searching for this store is well worth it.
Upon entering the shop I was greeted very friendly by two shop girls, of whom one was really energetic. I was looking around the shop when I noticed the Princess Wardrobe Pinafore JSK Set. The energetic shop girl quickly came to explain the different sets (mostly in Japanese so I just smiled at her most of the times).  She showed me the different cuts and colors, and when I tried to ask if it would fit my size she happily noted that I was allowed to try it on (I did not know you could try special sets on). I had picked out the ivory pinafore set, and everything fitted great, so I bought it. As I was used to by now the shop staff escorted me to the store exit with my purchase.

Kera shop Osaka

This will be a bit of a short post, as I wasn't that impressed with the Kera shop.
The Osaka Kera shop was pretty small, with only half of the shop dedicated to lolita. The shop was pretty crowded and with the small walkways between the clothes it was sometimes a bit hard to move around in the store. Most of the brands here I had never heard of, and I'm not really sure if that was because they are just plain not well known brands, or just not popular overseas. I had come to the Kera shop in hopes of buying some Triple Fortune items, but I couldn't find anything by this brand.
I did buy 2 GLBs, one being the new issue (it felt so nice to finally have a chance to read a GLB while it is still was current).

Innocent World Osaka

One of my favorite brands is Innocent World and it just happened to be that the main shop is located in Osaka, so I couldn't leave Osaka without visiting it.
We had a bit of trouble finding the shop, because it is located in a pretty normal apartment building and our only clue was that it had to be on the 5th floor. After some searching and a bit of help from the locals we found the right building.
This being the main shop I expected a pretty big store, but the size disappointed me a bit. However, what this shop lacks in size it makes up with what they managed to put in there. They were selling both the old and new releases (like the popular flag dress that was just released back then). The shop had a nice classic look, contrary to the 2 sweet shops I had visited before. In the back of the store was a display where the shoes were shown too.
While I was browsing the clothing a shop girl offered to store our shopping bags behind the counter, we really appreciated it as we were carrying quite a lot. After I had selected some items I wanted to try on the shop girl guided me to their fitting rooms (I learned quite quickly that in Japan you should always ask if you can fit something, plus I couldn't find the fitting rooms), it turned out that they were hidden behind big mirrors. The fitting rooms were just as elegant as the shop and quite roomy compared to normal fitting rooms.
After I had tried everything on and selected a few extra things I went to pay. While I was trying on things my mom had found a beautiful necklace that she bought for herself. After paying we were escorted back to the elevator where I was handed my new purchases.

Angelic Pretty Osaka

The Angelic Pretty store in Osaka can be easily recognized by the pink storefront. Upon entering the shop I was greeted by the friendly shop girl, who then minded her own business (I like to be able to look around for my self first).
There is just one word with which I can describe the shop interior, PINK! Everywhere you looked you saw pink, from pink shelves to the pink carpet. The decor is really cute, as were most of the dresses that were sold here. I'm not really into sweet lolita, so after browsing a few racks I left empty handed.

BtSSB Osaka

Another shop I visited during my stay in Osaka was BtSSB. The shop is pretty easy to find, whit a small stair you need to decent. The shop is a bit small, but it did not feel crammed. The lay out looks pretty similar to the one in Paris.
Upon entering there were 4 girls in the shop, all were part of the staff, so it was already pretty full in there. They all stopped what they were doing to greet me, but I don't think they ever had heard about being nice to customers. During all the time I was here (which was obviously not that long) they kept on staring at me, and not one of the shop girls tried to smile, they all gave me some kind of dead glare. As BtSSB is one of my favorite brands (and I buy from their online shop regularly) I felt really disappointed.
I was not dressed in lolita (I was after all on vacation, and lolita isn't the most moveable kind of clothing) so that might have triggered their reaction, but looking at the other stores I visited where I was treated nicely it still doesn't really make sense.

Maiden Clothing Osaka

During my trip to Osaka I visited quite a lot of lolita shops, one being Maiden Clothing. If I had to shortly describe Maiden Clothing I would say it is the Closet Child from Osaka. Contrary to Closet Child Maiden Clothing only has 1 lolita store (there are 2 stores right next to each other, but the other one only sells a handful of lolita items), this means that it is much bigger than the Closet Childs I've visited in Tokyo.
To reach it you need to take a green elevator (if you see a grey one instead you are standing at the wrong building, and need to move to the building next door).
I was the only customer in there, so I had the whole shop for myself. However, the shop clerk mainly minded her own business, so I did not feel pressured at all. The clothes are all aligned on clothing racks along the wall and in the middle of the shop. Contrary to Closet Child where items were sorted on kind, at Maiden Clothing everything is sorted according to brand (so for example a cardigan could be hanging next to a dress). I spend quite some time with my mom sorting through the items and picking out stuff I wanted to try. We mostly stayed on the right side of the shop, as the left side was completely dedicated to gothic lolita (I did try on a Moitié dress, they had a lot of those, but even though it fitted it did not look good on me).
When I was finished picking out items I asked to try everything on. Here it was no problem to take everything in the fitting room (I later found out this was not the case at Closet Child). The fitting room was pretty roomy with a clothes rack and the typical face covers (to protect the clothes against make-up stains).
After finishing trying everything on I went to pay for the items I picked out, I was glad to hear they accept credit cards. Everything is packed for you and you are given your purchases at the door.
I found the prices at Maiden Clothing a bit lower than at Closet Child, but they had less rare items.

Castlefest 2014

This past saturday I once again went to Castlefest (an annual 3 day event in Holland which has a medieval/fantasy theme), but this time I was really, really last minute about it. Without the time to finish a costume I chose for an Elsa inspired lolita outfit that I was already planning on doing sometime.
Outfit rundown; dress: Metamorphose, layer: BTSSB, crinoline: 4 O'Clock, rest offbrand

As I had to travel for about 2 hours to get to Keukenhof I got up pretty early to have plenty of time to finish my make-up (I'm always struggling with make-up, and this time I wanted to get the Elsa look). I used my own hair for the outfit and added little snowflakes, it was quite basic compared to my normal event costumes, but as a lolita outfit I really loved the final outcome.

Once I arrived at the venue there was a huge line for tickets (huge as in Disney huge :o), luckily Cat and Stefan were already inside with a ticket for me, allowing me to skip the queue.
Stefan was waiting with my ticket at the gate, and we soon met up with Cat and her mom. Cat was wearing an awesome dress from Haenuli with deers and bunnies.
It was great to once again taste the wonderful atmosphere these kind of events have. We walked around looking at the merchandise on sale, ate hemp bread, and just sat down looking at other people. There were notably less costumes in general and most of the costumes were also less impressive than previous years, but that was to be expected with the extreme heat we are experiencing currently (extreme heat in Holland is anywhere above 25 degrees C ;) ).
Time flew by and at about 19:30 I said goodbye and started my long journey back home.

Dream Items

Today I'm going to talk about my dream items. I actually keep 2 lists, one list with wishlist items (items i'd like to have but aren't on top of my list) and a list with dream items (items that I would kill for).
There are currently 7 items on that list (they are in random order);

  1. AatP: Elizabeth's Over Robe Op - I was lucky enough to be able to buy this from BtSSB Paris
  2. AatP: Poison de Lámour Juliette JSK
  3. AatP: Disney x Alice & the Pirates JSK (if I had to pick one as my most wanted dress, this would be it)
  4. BtSSB: La Robe de la Reine pour Midori
  5. This dress from 4 O'Clock that I don't know the name of :o
  6. Metamorphose: I own the matching set and am missing this bag, I only saw it being sold once, but it was for the black version.
  7. AatP: Elizabeth Bride of Death JSK I in either ivory or black, I previously owned the red high waisted skirt, but I sold it as I didn't like the color and the fit.

Old School Meet

On 22-06-2014 Josine and I organized the old school meeting. We both love old school clothes, and we are regularly discussing old school finds. We felt there was a lack of opportunities to wear our old school clothes, thus the meet was born.
Slowly time passed by, until 22-06 and to our great surprise we had gathered a group of 14 lolitas who wanted to join the meet.
We agreed to meet at Utrecht Central station at the Bruna (a bookshop). Everyone arrived at the assigned time, except Pichi Pie, who was accidentally standing at the wrong Bruna, we felt so guilty because we had no idea there was a second one on the station.
After we had the whole group together we walked to King Arthur, a restaurant located near the canals, were we had a nice group lunch.
Once everyone finished their lunch we went on our way to the Oude Hortus, which are the old university gardens that are still being taken care of. We took a lot of photo's here, and I made a short movie in which you can see everyones outfits and just in general how much fun we had.
Outfit rundown: dress cape headwear bag; Metamorphose, blouse; MMM, socks; BTSSB, shoes; Mary Magdalene

Behind the Mask

On 3 May 2014 some girls from our comm organized the Behind the Mask event. The dresscode was lolita and masks, such a fancy event gave me the opportunity to use an OTT piece from my wardrobe.
After I had decided on which dress to wear and my main theme, roses, I could start collecting accessories and most importantly start hunting for a mask. Finding just the right mask was quite difficult, but in the end I found the page of an elderly lady who sold made and sold masks. She was selling the exact kind of mask that I had in mind.
The event was held in a beautiful church room, whit plenty of space for all the guests and merchants. There were a few stalls selling all kinds of cute lolita items, I bought an adorable cat necklace for my mom from Senõr Bear. There were also 2 different workshops, one on wig care and the other about tea, I wasn't able to attend them, so I filled my time whit talking to a few old and new friends.
One activity I did participate in was the fashion contest. It was both great and scary at the same time to be competing against all the amazing outfits. I was really surprised when the winners were announced and I won the 3rd price, I won a super cute set from Summer Tales Boutique.

Outfit rundown: dress & necklace; BTSSB, shoes; An-Tai-Na, tights; Bodyline, everything else offbrand

Hello Kitty high tea 23-02-2014

On sunday 23-02-2014 our comm had a Hello Kitty high tea meet. Set Genki Tei in The Hague offered to organize a lolita sunday, offering people a chance to meet lolitas in real life.
I had planned my outfit quite some time ahead of this meeting, I tried to go for a princes looking outfit, including massive poof. I really liked the look of the outfit, but it did give me a bit of a problem moving inside the train.

Outfit rundown: dress & necklace & coat; AatP, shoes; BTSSB, crinoline; 4 O'Clock, underskirt; handmade, tights & tiara; offbrand

I managed to get to The Hague in one piece, where a big group of lolitas were waiting, we actually had such a big group they had to split us up.

The high tea consisted of Hello Kitty shaped cookies, chocolates in the form of Hello Kitty's head, cream puffs (these should have been filled whit red bean according to the description given on the site, however they were just normal cream puffs), blueberry and strawberry cheesecake (also shaped like Hello Kitty's head), sushi (this seemed kind of out of place and honestly didn't taste that good), and a cheese tosti (which were imprinted with a Hello Kitty head, but were really dry and served with jam, I've never seen anyone eat their tosti whit jam :o).
Honestly I was kind of disappointed with the high tea, the tableware and food looked great, but the taste was only so-so.
Still I would go back to Set Genki Tei, as the cheesecakes were little pieces of heaven, and the dinner I had there was great.
I made 2 videos of the meet, one outfit video and one general video.

Welcome

Welcome to my blog!
I'm a 21 years old classic/old-school lolita from Holland. Currently I'm studying IBA at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, I work at KFC, and one of my main hobbies (apart from lolita) is horseback riding.
I will post about my lolita adventures on this blog, as I've just started I'll also include some past meetings.
